Nufam: Behaviour of DPM’s daughter reflects her upbringing

National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia says Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid's comment on “old stewardesses” shows her father is not a “people’s person”.

PETALING JAYA:
The Deputy Prime Minister’s daughter, Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, has earned the ire of stewards and stewardesses after she chastised Malaysia Airlines Bhd for having “old” flight attendants.

In a report by Malaysiakini, National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) President Ismail Nasaruddin said Nurulhidayah’s Instagram posting – which has since been removed – was “unbecoming” and had angered many of the national airline’s cabin crew.

Ismail also said Nurulhidayah should be mindful of her behaviour as it reflected her upbringing and gave the impression that her father was not a “people’s person”.

“As a woman, she should have considered the dignity of the stewardesses and fought for their rights as female workers, not condemn them,” he was quoted by the news portal as saying.

Ismail said the Nufam office had received many calls from its members who expressed disappointment with what Nurulhidayah had written.

Malaysiakini reported that in her earlier posting, Nurulhidayah said her company – Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd – was going through budget cuts and so she had to fly with AirAsia, a budget airline, instead.

“Malaysia Airlines is super expensive and the stewardesses are mostly old.

“I hope my harsh views would not be seen as trying to intervene in government policy,” the portal reported her as writing on the photo-sharing network.

She also reportedly urged her followers to not condemn her and used a laughing emoji.

This is not the first time Nurulhidayah has received flak over her statements on social media.
Netizens had in February asked her to be an example and take up a low-paying job after her father had called on local youths to take up “dirty, difficult and dangerous” jobs, now monopolised by foreign workers.

Nurulhidayah, in response, told her critics that she would wait for them to seek her forgiveness on Judgement Day.
