The document states the loss of confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak and calls for his resignation, recommending Ku Li for the post.
“We need a leader who is respected and accepted by the majority in the Dewan Rakyat. I hereby declare my full confidence in Gua Musang Member of Parliament YB Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to be the next Malaysian Prime Minister,” the SD states.
There was no information to verify the authenticity of the undated SD, who it was sent to and if any lawmakers had indeed received or signed it.
Liew posted snapshots of the three-page document on his Facebook page, along with the message in Bahasa Malaysia: “The SD attached here is for the attention of Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.”
Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was quoted in Malaysiakini earlier today of accusing former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad of spreading tales that Tengku Razaleigh and several other Umno lawmakers were plotting to unseat Najib via a no-confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat.
“I didn’t see anything being circulated. Not at all. Even my friends and colleagues, other MPs from Umno and BN didn’t talk about this. I should know if there was, but there wasn’t. These are all stories created by Mahathir,” he had been reported as saying.
Mahathir last Friday had said Tengku Razaleigh, who is Gua Musang MP, was among several Umno leaders who had secretly sought Najib’s removal.
However, several days ago, Ku Li rooted for Najib to remain as the prime minister by signing the “Kelantan Declaration, stating that he always placed the country’s interests above his own and operated within the confines of the Federal Constitution.
