“It is not something new and our stand is clear. The time has come to replace the Johor Causeway,” he told reporters.
Mohamed Khaled said the decision on the Johor Causeway could be a subject of discussion between leaders of Malaysia and Singapore at their next retreat.
Asked whether the Johor Causeway will be on the agenda, he said the annual meeting is about bilateral ties between both countries and the agenda is set by Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.
“Our stand is very clear. If Kuala Lumpur and Singapore agree (to replace the Johor Causeway), we (the state government) agree to it.”
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, recently suggested that the Johor Causeway be replaced. He said traffic flow in Johor Baharu would improve after the Johor Causeway is replaced.
The 1.05 km Causeway links Johor Baharu to Woodlands in Singapore. It was built in 1923.
