Husam, a former PAS vice-president and Kelantan state assemblyman for Salor, urged Malaysians to recognise that the struggle for Najib to step down was not solely for DAP, or former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“This battle does not belong to DAP, or to Mahathir. Don’t make this an issue of race or religion. We are all called as Malaysians to reject this evil. It is both our right and responsibility,” Husam said in a speech at the People’s Congress being held here as part of the Save Malaysia campaign to oust Najib.
Husam alleged that money (funnelled into the government investment arm 1Malaysia Development Bhd) had been spent for personal reasons.
“Financial institutions such as Tabung Haji had been stripped to help 1MDB avoid the law,” he said. “Enforcement agencies have been used to make our country look as if it belongs to one man alone. Is this not dangerous, a threat to the nation’s system and rule of law? It is not a choice (to reject Najib) but a responsibility.”
Husam, along with Mahfuz Omar, MP for Pokok Sena, Kedah, were the two only members of PAS present at the People’s Congress.
