CYBERJAYA:
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are working together with the police to carry out investigations into R. Sivarasa, the MP for Subang, for a mock Time magazine cover featuring the prime minister Najib Razak.

The investigation is for allegedly uploading and sharing false contents on Facebook, MCMC said, based on the complaints received.

Sivarasa was said to have shared on his Facebook page an image purportedly of the front cover of Time magazine carrying a photograph of Najib with the caption “No. 2 Dalam Senarai Rasuah” (No. 2 In the Corrupt List) whereas the magazine had never published such a front page.

MCMC also said Sivarasa’s statement had been recorded at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday, according to Bernama.

“His handphone and SIM card had also been checked and had gone through the process of forensic analysis,” said MCMC in a statement uploaded on the commission’s Facebook page on Saturday, the report said.

MCMC said the investigation was carried out under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for not more than one year or both.
