The campaign, led by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, also seeks an independent investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the government’s investment arm which has been the subject of criticism over the past year.
Tomorrow’s gathering was mooted by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim in support of Mahathir’s year-long campaign against Najib.
Zaid, who will deliver the opening address, said suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and Mahathir will be the last two to speak. (They’re the) climax, sort of,” he told Malaysiakini.
Others include suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Mahathir’s son Mukhriz, who was recently ousted as Kedah Menteri Besar; PKR deputy-president Azmin Ali; DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang; Amanah president Mohamad Sabu; Hakam president Ambiga Sreenevasan and Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah.
The gathering follows up on the 37-point Citizens’ Declaration signed by 45 politicians, comprising Mahathir’s supporters and opposition leaders.
