The Ampang lawmaker’s statement comes a day after the Shah Alam High Court awarded RM414,800 in damages to the family of Aminulrasyid Amzah, who was shot dead by a police officer in 2010.
Zuraida alleged that for six years the Inspector-General of Police had shown contempt for Aminulrasyid’s case, further claiming this showed Khalid’s arrogance and ignorance of what his job entailed, which was to protect the country’s citizens.
She also cited the death in custody of A Kugan, and more recently, the tearing down of the #BebasAnwar billboards, and said there was no other alternative but for Khalid to step down immediately.
“It is best if he (Khalid) resigns for the sake of the country’s safety. We do not want more deaths in custody nor trigger-happy law enforcers.”
Aminulrasyid, 14, was shot dead by the police after he, while out with a friend for supper, fled upon seeing a police patrol car flagging him down.
Kugan meanwhile was arrested and remanded on January 14, 2009 at the Puchong Jaya police lock-up before he was found dead on January 20, four days after being brought to the Taipan USJ Subang Jaya police station on January 16.
Zuraida urged other police officers in the force to join the public and demand for Khalid’s resignation.
