“They’re Islamic, but they support corruption… what’s so Islamic about that? One day they want hudud, the next day they say it can wait… You know, for a reformist group, you cannot live with that sort of politics. You might as well give PAS to Umno,” Zaid said.
He also said the Opposition was a lot leaner and cleaner without the inclusion of PAS in their coalition.
It was not good, Zaid said, for PAS to waver on big issues like hudud and democracy and added, “You either oppose corruption or you don’t. They say they oppose corruption but support Najib (Razak) and BN. They say they can’t work with DAP because DAP doesn’t want hudud, but then they team up with (Ikatan). They’re incoherent.”
However, Salor assemblyman Husam Musa and Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar, both PAS party leaders, will be present at the invitation-only People’s Congress, a closed-door event organised by Zaid on March 27.
“Husam and Mahfuz are still in PAS for strategic reasons. I am satisfied with their views,” Zaid said in an interview with FMT.
Husam, he said, represented the PAS moderate group which opposes Barisan Nasional.
“I’m inviting them not because they’re from PAS, but because of their views. I want leaders who can articulate themselves,” he said.
The same goes for lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan, he said, who was invited as an individual, and not because she is part of electoral watchdog, Bersih.
The “Save Malaysia” movement was formed after the unveiling of the Citizens’ Declaration by former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad on March 4. The declaration is demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak and the implementation of political reforms in the country.
