KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian police are ready to face any form of threat from militant groups, including chemical and biological attacks, Parliament heard today.

The Home Ministry, in a written reply to Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid (Umno-Kota Tinggi) in the Dewan Rakyat, said Malaysian police were constantly monitoring any possible threat by militants, including in the form of sarin gas and anthrax powder attacks by terrorists, by working closely and sharing information with foreign intelligence agencies.

“These preparations have been made in accordance with the police’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and rules stipulated by the National Security Council.

“So far, there are no indications that militant groups are planning to launch such attacks in Malaysia,” said the reply.

Last Thursday, Noor Ehsanuddin had asked how prepared were our local authorities to handle chemical and biological attacks by militant groups such as Daesh, the Sulus, as well as the Abu Sayyaf.
