Firemen rescue overweight man from walk-up flat

Unable to walk down and go to hospital, rescue team lift him on stretcher and carry him to ambulance

KUALA LUMPUR:
Firemen went to the rescue of an overweight man who was unable to walk down from his third-floor walk-up flat yesterday.

He was carried down in a stretcher to the ground floor so that he could seek treatment at a hospital.

Using a stretcher fitted with safety devices, a team of fire and rescue department personnel carried Muhd Khairul Hidayat Taslim, 26, who weighs 180kg and suffers from a medical condition, to a waiting ambulance vehicle.

The man was then sent to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital.

Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Department chief Kamil Hamadan said: “The stairway was also too narrow for Muhd Khairul Hidayat to pass through so we took the initiative to lift and carry the man all the way down,” he said when contacted Friday.

He said six firemen were involved in the 20-minute rescue operation which ended at 4.50pm.
