PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem was only trying to preserve racial harmony when he barred some politically-motivated individuals from entering the state, said a Barisan Nasional leader.

According to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) publicity chief Peter Minos, Sarawak, the country’s largest state, was free of racial problems until peninsula-based PKR and DAP made their way there.

“Racial problems were not a problem until DAP and PKR made it a problem and we, the Sarawakians, don’t like it.

“That’s why our chief minister banned some people. When they come in, they pit one race against another.

“That is not good as we are all created by God, by Allah,” he told FMT when contacted.

Since last year, several Opposition leaders as well as anti-establishment activists were barred, without prior notice, from Sarawak.

Those on the “blacklist” include PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah Anwar, Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and DAP leader Teresa Kok.

Bersih secretariat member Mandeep Singh is also on the list. He called the ban a political move against activists.

However, Minos denied this, claiming that over the past 10 years or so, DAP had attempted to “divide and conquer” the different races and ethnic groups in Sarawak.

“On one hand, they (DAP) say they are multiracial. But at the same time, they pit one group against the other. They are playing dangerous politics. That’s why DAP, at least among the Bumiputeras in Sarawak, is a no go.

“They can only appeal to the Chinese who are already sakit hati (upset) with what is going on in the peninsula.”
