PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that reports were lodged regarding a bungalow purchased by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

In a statement today, MACC said it had recorded statements from the two complainants.

“MACC wants to explain the case regarding the purchase of the house is a new revelation and MACC had not opened a file on the case before.

“The MACC investigation before this was only related to the renting of the house, not purchase,” read the statement.

The issue was brought up after Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya had in Parliament on Thursday queried the purchase of a house by Lim and claimed it was bought at below the market price.

Today, FMT published Lim’s full statement, denying any wrongdoing from his side.

Lim claimed he had purchased a two-storey house in Jalan Pinhorn on July 28, 2015 from an individual, not through a private developer.

The purchase was made through a bank loan of RM 2.1 million and RM700,000 in cash.

Lim also denied any connection between the purchase of a piece of land in Taman Manggis and stated that Bagan Umno head Shaikh Hussein Mydin, who had first raised questions about the purchase of the land, had retracted the accusation and apologised to him twice in court after being sued for defamation.

Shaikh Hussein, however, has since denied he had retracted the statement about the Taman Manggis issue.

“I had never retracted my statement about the revelation I did regarding the tender proses, land evaluation, tender evaluation, tender procurement and involvement by stakeholders in the Taman Manggis scandal,” he said today.
