‘Reducing number of toll plazas not in manifesto’

BN government has started negotiating with highway concessionaires to reduce toll rates so as not to burden the people, says Works Minister Fadillah Yusof.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Cutting down on the number of toll plazas in the Klang Valley was not in BN’s 13th General Election manifesto, said Works Minister Fadillah Yusof.

He said BN promised not to raise intercity toll for five years from 2013 to 2018, but this referred only to the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and East Coast Highway (LPT).

“The proposal to reduce the number of toll plazas in the Klang Valley is not included in the BN manifesto at all.”

Fadillah said this in response to a question from Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian on the government’s efforts to reduce the number of toll plazas in the Klang Valley.

Hee also asked on government measures to reduce toll rates so as not to burden the people.

Fadillah said the ministry had started negotiating with highway concessionaires to reduce toll rates so as not to burden the people.

“The talks are aimed at finding the best mechanism to ease the burden of tolls by taking a ‘win win’ approach for all parties concerned, especially the government, concessionaires, investors and consumers.”
