Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul said the motion was submitted by Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Feb 25 and confirmation of acceptance was stamped the next day.
“We filed the motion requesting for the Dewan Rakyat to take action against Apandi. We have lost confidence in the Attorney-General.
“This is due to his decisions regarding investigations into 1MDB and Prime Minister Najib Razak’s RM2.6 billion donation,” said Johari in a press conference at the Parliament lobby here today.
A copy of the motion submitted to the Dewan Rakyat’s Speaker’s office showed Wan Azizah citing Apandi’s alleged decision to disband the special task force probing allegations of misappropriation and abuse of power in the management of state-owned investment firm 1MDB as well as the RM2.6 billion political donation deposited into Najib’s personal accounts.
The task force comprised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bank Negara Malaysia, the police and the AG himself.
It also cited Apandi’s decision to clear Najib of all allegations of wrongdoing in the twin scandals as a reason.
Johari said Apandi acted unfairly by presiding differently in a separate but similar case of a political donation involving former Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s special officer, Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri.
“Yahya took a RM50,000 political donation and even though he was declared not guilty initially, the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) acting under the AG’s order, appealed twice until Yahya was finally found guilty.
“He was sentenced to two years in prison. Yahya named the donor and the money was channelled into the party’s (PKR) account, not his own. But he was found guilty while the prime minister was declared innocent.
“It was an act of injustice.”
Although Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has yet to reply to the motion, Johari expressed confidence that it would be debated in the current parliamentary sitting.
