Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the 50-year-old man, who hails from a northern state, was detained at the Salak Tinggi police station in Sepang, Selangor, at 5.12pm yesterday when he came there to lodge a police report on the incident.
“The trailer involved has also been taken to the Malim police station and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said when contacted here today.
In the 9.50pm incident, more than 15 vehicles parked on the road-shoulder were damaged after being grazed by a trailer while the vehicle owners were watching a Super League football match at the Hang Jebat Stadium between Royal Malaysia Police and Johor Darul Takzim.
Meanwhile, the Melaka Stadium Corporation said over 15,000 parking lots had been provided at the Hang Jebat Sports Complex for spectators who wanted to watch football matches held at the Hang Jebat Stadium.
Its president, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, said the number did not include about 3,000 vehicles that could be parked in a 4.9ha open space area in the complex.
“I would like to ask for cooperation from visitors or spectators at the Hang Jebat Stadium in future to park their vehicles at the designated areas to avoid traffic congestion and untoward incidents,” he told a press conference at his office here.
Elaborating, Yusoff said such an incident could have been avoided if visitors to the stadium had parked their vehicles at the areas provided in the stadium complex.
He said some improvements would be made in the complex for the ease and comfort of visitors, including by changing the main entrance to ensure all vehicles could enter the stadium.
“We will also seek traffic police assistance to facilitate smooth entry and exit in the area, especially during match day,” he said.
