the party’s president, M. Kayveas, said the party’s Supreme Council and state liaison chiefs had agreed on its stand.

“We disagree with the declaration made by Dr Mahathir Mohamad because it is personal and does not represent all Malaysians,” he said referring to the so-called Citizens’ Declaration signed by 45 people last week.

“There is no law in this country that says that if you disagree with the system, you can form a group and collect signatures,” he said after chairing the meeting.

He said Malaysians should accept the transformation programmes carried out by Najib’s government, including the Economic Transformation Programme; there was no the need to demand his resignation.

Kayveas also said most of the laws in this country were introduced by Dr Mahathir when he led the country for 22 years and he had now chosen to oppose them.

“It’s like a Kung Fu master who disagrees with his own Kung Fu,” he said cynically while at the same time inviting Dr Mahathir who has announced he has left UMNO, to join myPPP instead as it was also a BN component party.

On March 4, Dr Mahathir and other politicians including Lim Kit Siang of the DAP and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali of PKR, in signed a declaration demanding Najib’s resignation as prime minister. Other signatories included former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin; Mahathir’s son Mukhriz, the former Kedah menteri besar; and former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik.
