PETALING JAYA:
It is more important for Umno veteran Abu Hassan Omar to persuade Prime Minister Najib Razak to resign and sue the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) rather than play the role of peacemaker.

This is the suggestion sacked Batu Kawan Umno Vice-Chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan had for Abu Hassan after the former Selangor menteri besar offered to mediate between Najib and former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In a Facebook post, Khairuddin suggested to Abu Hassan that the latter become the middleman to persuade Najib to resign as soon as possible as it was more important.

“Maybe Abu Hassan does not understand the issue at hand, the public is against the corruption and abuse of power plaguing Najib’s leadership,” he said, also questioning how it could be possible for Abu Hassan to play peacemaker as a person with strong religious principles could not reconcile with corruption and abuse of power.

Khairuddin said it was also more important for him to advise Najib to make a police report and sue the WSJ and Sarawak Report officially for their accusations that he siphoned off billions of 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) money.

“Can Abu Hassan become the middleman in asking Najib why he does not want to sue WSJ and Sarawak Report?”

He said the Selangor branch of Former Elected Representatives Council (Mubarak), which Abu Hassan heads, could become the middleman in this issue as Malaysians and international observers were at a loss as to why Najib was afraid of taking legal action.

Khairuddin added that Abu Hassan could inform Najib that the grassroots had rejected his leadership and that as long as Najib held on to power in the government and Umno, then the party and the people would reject Umno and the government in the next general election.

“Let us lose a corrupt leader rather than lose Umno and the BN (Barisan Nasional) forever,” he said, urging Abu Hassan to think wisely.

Yesterday, it was reported that Abu Hassan offered to mediate between Najib and Mahathir to seek an amicable solution to attempts to oust the prime minister.

Abu Hassan had said Selangor Mubarak supported Najib’s leadership and was of the view that any difference in opinion could be solved by personal meetings and negotiations.
