KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang lawmaker Hanipa Maidin has admitted he was unaware that several of his constituents in Dengkil were living without electricity and water supply, a majority of whom are Orang Asli.

Upon learning about the matter from FMT, the Amanah MP however pledged to raise the issue in the Dewan Rakyat next week with hopes that the government would take immediate action to rectify the situation.

He added it was “unfortunate” that some Malaysians had to endure such living conditions and said, “It is very strange because I never imagined that there were still residents denied basic necessities like this.”

A check by FMT recently revealed that three settlements – Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tunggul Block A, Block B and Block C – had no electricity or water supply since the country gained Independence.

This despite the Orang Asli settlement and other affected pockets of residencies located just 5 km from Putrajaya, the nation’s administrative capital.

Another settlement in the area, Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Jenuk, only just received water supply but people there were still forced to make do without electricity.

Most of its residents work as labourers in Bangi, Kajang, Dengkil and Putrajaya.
