The MP of Lembah Pantai and PKR vice-president said this after she was called to the Petaling Jaya Police District headquarters today, over allegations she had shared a picture of Najib in clown make-up on her Instagram account.
The “clown poster” is a satirical sketch of Najib by artist Fahmi Reza captioned with the words “Kita Semua Penghasut” (We are all seditious).
“This is particularly to strike fear amongst other Malaysians in light of Najib’s current position in Umno,” she said when met by reporters.
Najib is the president of Umno.
According to her lawyer Michelle Yesudass, Nurul was questioned for about an hour under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act although she chose not to answer the questions posed by the police.
Michelle argued that the investigation on Nurul and other social activists and politicians showed that police had deviated from their key responsibilities of maintaining peace and security.
“We urge them (police) to work together to foster a progressive society and not act on activists and (members of) the Opposition. We hope it will be the last of it,” she said.
Fellow PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli was also called in for questioning today at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters albeit over a different case.
