KUCHING:
The Sarawak head of Barisan Nasional Youth, Fadillah Yusof, is to meet former sprint champion Watson Nyambek (the “Flying Dayak”) for clarification about his reported financial problems.

“The effort is to recognise and appreciate his sacrifices and contributions to the country since he is still the National Men’s 100m record holder. The record of 10.30s was set in 1998,” said Fadillah in a statement today, Bernama reported.

Fadillah is MP for Petra Jaya, and works minister in the federal Cabinet.

On Friday, an insolvency notice was published in the Borneo Post declaring Watson a bankrupt. Other news media also reported that the matter arose out of a bank loan of RM100,000 which he had taken to pay for his father’s medical expenses while undergoing cancer treatment.

Watson’s father died two years ago.
