The victims are family members of Pahang police chief Sharifuddin Abd Ghani.
Sharifuddin’s family member, Major Azmi Abdul Rahim, when met at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital today, confirmed the identity of the victims at the hospital’s mortuary.
The dead were Sharifuddin’s sister Rosmani Abd Ghani, 65; Mohd Azahar Abdul Rahim, 43 (Rosmani’s son); and Mohd Azahar’s two sons, Muhammad Aizat Mohd Azahar, 17 and Muhammad Daniel Mohd Azahar, 13.
Azmi said the victims were on their way to Shah Alam, Selangor, from Sungai Petani, Kedah, to collect the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results of Muhammad Aizat at Royal Military College in Sungai Besi.
“They left Sungai Petani at 10pm and were supposed to reach Shah Alam at 4am or 5am.
“I tried to contact them but failed. I later took 12 personnel to look out for them along the North-South Expressway until Taiping,” said Azmi, who is the assistant commanding officer at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment Camp in Bentong, Pahang.
The four bodies were found inside a car that was burnt beyond recognition under a trailer lorry that had lost control and burst into flames on Thursday morning.
Their remains will be buried in Terengganu.
