PETALING JAYA:
The presence of two PAS stalwarts at the signing of an anti-Najib Razak declaration today meant there was a split in the Islamist party, PKR’s Rafizi Ramli said.

Declaring he was encouraged by the sight of PAS Election Director Mustafa Ali and former Information Chief Mahfuz Omar at the event, the PKR secretary-general said it was a sign “that all was not well in PAS”.

“The only wild card that Najib has in the next general election is PAS.

“And now that PAS is in a bad condition, Najib might lose that card,” he told reporters after the signing of the “Citizens’ Declaration”.

PAS had previously said it would not get involved in the declaration or in any anti-Najib rally.

Mahfuz stated he attended in his personal capacity. Interestingly, the Pokok Sena MP had also attended a round-table discussion to form Pakatan Harapan in September last year, also claiming his attendance was by personal invitation.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had read out the declaration on the intention to remove Najib Razak as PM and also called for reforms of state agencies after this was done.

Rafizi’s comments about PAS may ruffle a few feathers seeing that he had earned the ire of PAS supporters after he urged PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang to reconsider his ties with Umno people.

This also led to PAS Kelantan Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari taking Rafizi to task for intentionally twisting Hadi’s statement.

Hadi said he was opposed to Umno but wished to remain on good terms with Umno people and would not be attending an anti-Najib invitation-only gathering on March 27.
