PETALING JAYA: Police are set to question the chief editor of The Malaysian Insider (TMI), Jahabar Sadiq over an article claiming the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had “credible evidence to frame charges against Prime Minister Najib Razak.”

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar told FMT this morning, that the probe would be on the news portal’s article titled, “Enough proof to charge Najib over SRC, says MACC oversight committee” which cited an unnamed member from the Operations Review Panel (ORP).

“However a press release by two panel members denying it, has confused the public,” said Khalid, in reference to a joint statement signed by the chairman of the operations review panel, Hamid Bugo, and member Mohamed Jawhar Hassan.

In the joint statement, the duo revealed that the news report was inaccurate.

Earlier this morning, Khalid tweeted that the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (PCIRC) had called in Jahabar, and that police were investigating an article that had “confused” the public.

“PCIRC @PDRMsia will call the chief editor of @tm_insider and will investigate a report that has confused the people about the MACC panel.”

The same article is believed to also be the reason behind the move by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to block access to the portal. The blocking was carried out in accordance with Section 263 (2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for violating Section 233.
