PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was today urged to continue its investigations into SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation in Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal accounts.

In a statement, MACC stated it was requested by the Operations Review Panel (ORP) to issue a public statement on the issue.

“The panel agreed that MACC resubmit its investigation papers regarding SRC International to the Attorney-General for review.

“Since MACC’s investigation into the alleged RM2.6 billion donation case is still incomplete, the panel recommended to MACC that it continue its investigation into the case and seek the Attorney-General’s assistance to issue the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) in order for MACC to obtain evidence and documents from financial institutions based overseas as part of its investigation into the RM2.6 billion,” the statement read.

The Operations Review Panel also released a statement on the matter today.

It stated that it was briefed on the latest developments regarding the SRC International and the alleged RM2.6 billion donation cases.

“The panel held its 29th meeting this morning and deliberated upon the papers submitted for its consideration.

“The panel was briefed on the cases and has given its advice to MACC on further courses of action,” the statement read.

Attorney-General Mohamad Apandi Ali had last month cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the two cases, citing insufficient evidence to implicate the PM.

Also today, the National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) questioned the need for a check-and-balance in MACC under the Prime Minister’s Department following speculation that one of its oversight panels could be disbanded.

In a statement, the president of the PKR-linked watchdog, Akmal Nasir, said delays and failures to resolve the cases involving 1MDB would only reveal weaknesses in the MACC Act 2009 as well as the failure of existing systems to combat corruption.

He also alleged procrastination on the part of the Attorney-General’s Chambers to recommendations and meetings sought by MACC’s Operations Review Panel on the state investment arm had hampered the battle against graft.
