‘Sarawak DAP chief has twisted Adenan’s words’

Sarawak BNBBC chairman says Adenan did not say whole education system was a failure and only regretted graduates did not have better command of English.

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Abdullah Saidol has taken state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen to task for twisting the words of Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem.

According to a Borneo Post Online report, Abdullah accused Chong of twisting Adenan’s statement on giving importance to English in schools.

“The chief minister (CM) never mentioned that the whole education system was a failure, but specifically conveyed his disappointment over the poor command of English among our students, especially the graduates.

“And he did convey that concern to the education minister and even to the prime minister,” he said in a statement.

Abdullah also said Adenan had determined that English would be the state’s second official language.
He was responding to Chong questioning Adenan’s sincerity in wanting to promote English among Sarawakian students.

Abdullah said DAP’s agenda was all about political manipulation and deceiving the people, citing Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming’s twisting of Adenan’s statement to turn the Chinese against the chief minister.

“Even their own Chinese supporters are disgusted by the video clip created by DAP that went viral during Chinese New Year. People have described it as immature, despicable and insulting their own culture.”

He also criticsed DAP as being arrogant and having a self-centred leadership, citing the issue of DAP belittling its ally, PKR, and the removal of two PKR assemblymen from their posts in state government-linked agencies in Penang.

He said Sarawakians should show Chong and the DAP leadership that its brand of politics was unwanted in Sarawak.
