Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said the safety of students not only involved infrastructure but also students’ welfare when going to and from school as well as the issue of bullying by fellow students.
The officers should send out letters to the state education directors, district education officers, school principals and teachers to be wary of things such as the sewerage system.
“They have to inspect the facilities and must be responsible for the safety of students in schools,” he told reporters after visiting the family of Raja Nur Najjwa Ariana Raja Mohamad Shahrunizam here today.
Present were Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron and Education Ministry Director-General Khair Mohamad Yusof.
School pupil Raja Nur Najjwa Ariana, 7, died after falling into the septic tank of SRA Parit Penghulu Benteng, Sungai Rambai on February 1.
Mahdzir said his ministry would cooperate with Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) to view the sewerage system in schools to prevent such incidents from recurring.
“The sewerage system in schools is under the supervision of IWK. I contacted IWK yesterday asking for their cooperation in this matter.”
