Inspector, single mum charged over RM620,000 heist

Duo is accused of robbing a bag containing the money from a money-changer outlet in Jalan Maarof, on February 10.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A police inspector and a single mother were charged in the Sessions Court today for committing gang robbery involving RM620,000 belonging to a money-changer outlet.

Inspector M Ruben, 30, and N Pugunaswary, 40, mother of three children, pleaded not guilty before Judge Shamsudin Abdullah.

The duo, together with another suspect still at large, are accused of robbing a bag containing RM620,000, belonging to Syarikat Spectrum Forex at Jalan Maarof here, at 12.20pm on February 10.

Judge Shamsudin allowed both accused bail of RM10,000 in one surety and to report to the Klang district police headquarters every month.

The court set February 19 for re-mention of the case and also fixed February 25 for case management.

The trial is fixed to be heard on March 4 and March 10.

Ruben, who worked at the Klang district police headquarters, was represented by counsel Geethan Ram Vincent, while Pugunaswary, a money dispatcher at the company, was represented by S Ruban.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa appeared for the prosecution in accordance to Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and liable to whipping upon conviction.
