PETALING JAYA:
The Amanah party leader, Mohamad Sabu, said last night that Malaysian apathy towards political change caused him to fling away a microphone while speaking at a solidarity rally for Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday.

“Our neighbours (in South-East Asia) have moved ahead and we are still a bunch of fearful people… until when?,” he was quoted as saying at a gathering in Kelantan last night. “That was why I threw the microphone.”

Mat Sabu said that Malaysia’s neighbours had succeeded in replacing corrupt leaders through exercising the people’s power yet despite the large-scale corruption, the Barisan Nasional continued to be voted into power because the people were afraid to change.

“At first there was the BMF scandal. Then we had Perwaja, and then PKFZ. This was followed by the cow and condo scandal. And now, we have the 1MDB land purchase by Tabung Haji and the latest revelation about a letter from the Bank Negara governor to Tabung Haji,” he reminded the gathering, according to The Malaysian Insider.

“But come election time, BN still wins,” he was quoted as saying.
