IPOH:
A mechanic and his son suspected of involvement in a murder case have been placed under detention for two years under the Prevention of Crime Act after being released from remand by the Sessions Court.

Police took the case to the Crime Prevention Board which issued the detention order at 9pm last night.

Perak CID chief Goh Kok Liang said the order is effective today. The 58-year-old mechanic will be detained at Simpang Renggam Special Rehabilitation Centre, Johor, and his son, aged 21, at the Kluang centre.

The two men were held for investigations into the the murder of four people in Jalan Pahang, Tapah, last year.

They were held in remand since December. The maximum remand period expires today.

Deputy public prosecutor Harris Ong Mohd Jeffery Ong said the father and son were released by the Sessions Court as the investigation could not be completed during the 60-day remand.

The father and son were among four people detained by police on Oct 26 near a motor workshop off Jalan Pahang in Tapah, during investigations into a missing 46-year-old property agent in Kampung Sungai Lah, Chenderiang near here.
