The three-person Regency Council will interview the assemblymen one by one tomorrow, according to Star Online, quoting unnamed political sources.
Mukhriz will also be summoned, the report said.
It is believed the regents wish to assess the assembly members’ views, following a declaration by 19 assembly members against Mukhriz.
On Wednesday, Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Razak sought an audience with the Kedah Sultan, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, in Kuala Lumpur. The Sultan is serving as Yang di-Pertuan Agong and constitutionally may not perform state functions.
His royal duties as Sultan have been assigned to the regency council, which comprises his younger brothers Tunku Temenggong Tunku Sallehuddin and Tunku Laksamana Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani, and his daughter, Tunku Panglima Besar Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz.
Menteris besar are appointed by the Rulers from among members of the state assembly (or Parliament) who the Ruler believes to command the confidence of a majority of the assembly, and is usually the leader of the majority party.
The Rulers’ power to appoint comes into play when disputes arise about whether a menteri besar or prime minister has lost a majority, which is usually determined on a confidence vote in the House.
Two weeks ago, 14 Umno divisional leaders led by Kedah Umno deputy chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah declared a loss of confidence in Mukhriz. Later 19 assemblymen were reported to have signed statutory declarations agreeing to a change of menteri besar.
However some reports have said a few assemblymen have claimed they signed the sworn statements under duress.
One of them, Abu Hasan Shariff, the member for Kota Siputeh, said that he had “tried to run and hide, but they chased me until I nearly fell into the sea”.
