Ally Mukhriz turned a frown into a smile when she posted on Instagram yesterday, a caricature of her father fully clad in a Superman costume, replacing the “S” on the superhero’s chest with an “M” for Mukhriz.

The image was followed with the heart-melting caption: “My dad has always been my Superman.”

The post understandably touched the hearts of many of her followers, who in turn left words of support for Mukhriz, who is currently embroiled in a crisis.

Last week, Kedah Umno Deputy Chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah, in a surprise press conference, called for Prime Minister Najib Razak to replace Mukhriz as Menteri Besar, after claiming the latter had failed in administrating the state government effectively or planning for the next general election.

“We will support your dad 110% with no doubt,” commented Instagram user, Ninirohayu.

Ninaimran_ meanwhile wrote: “Support your father! He’s also the Superman to all and a great leader as well. Hope he’ll become our PM one fine day..really hope so!”

Another Instagram user, Shushuib said, “Stay strong..many people, not just Kedahans who love him are behind him.”

Ally reacted immediately, launching a #SayaSokongMukhrizMahathir campaign which saw many social media users rallying behind the son of Najib’s biggest critic, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

Mahathir at an event yesterday alleged Mukhriz had become the latest victim of Najib’s attempt to clamp down on his dissenters.

Mahathir said Najib would do anything, including kicking out one of his own party members who has spoken up against his alleged corruption.

The same fate was dealt to Najib’s own party deputy president, Muhyiddin Yassin who last year, was sacked from his Deputy Prime Minister’s post in a surprise Cabinet reshuffle.
