Advisory panels want MACC to seek explanation from AG

Former judge says Attorney-General Apandi Ali cannot make a decision then remain silent over it later.

PUTRAJAYA:
Two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory panels have advised the anti-graft agency to seek an explanation from Attorney-General (AG) Apandi Ali about the decision to have the case on the RM2.6 billion donation and RM42 million from SRC International closed.

Former Court of Appeal Judge, Mohd Noor Abdullah said the panels, the Operation Review and Special Panel, had advised the MACC to engage Apandi as the public also had the right to know how the latter came to his decision to clear Prime Minister Najib Razak of wrongdoing after the funds were channelled into his personal bank accounts in 2013.

“As the AG, your power is not absolute. You can decide but you are answerable to the public. You can’t keep quiet,” Mohd Noor said during a press conference after a five-hour meeting with panel members at the MACC building here.

Also present during the press conference was former Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan.

According to Musa, the reason why the body wanted the MACC to seek an explanation from the AG was so the public could better understand why Apandi ordered the cases closed.

“The panels represent public opinion and have advised the MACC to engage with the AG because we feel there are certain things that they (the public) want to know as to why the cases are closed,” said Musa.

Both Noor Abdullah and Musa are part of the Special panel.
