PETALING JAYA:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement that Christian missionaries used money to win over converts will not affect PAS voters in Sarawak.

PAS Sarawak Commissioner Jofri Jaraiee told FMT that Sarawakian voters generally valued parties that looked after their welfare.

He said unless the statements were twisted by certain parties, it would not affect PAS’ chances of winning seats at the Sarawak elections.

“Generally, there is no problem.”

Jofri also agreed with Hadi’s statement, stressing there were Christian missionaries who came to the state’s interiors and handed out food to entice the people into embracing Christianity.

“This is because many of them are easily attracted as welfare is very important in the interiors where people need a lot of help.”

Yesterday FMT reported that Hadi had alleged Christian missionaries chose to spread their religion in Malaysia after experiencing failure in the West.

He said Christianity was no longer saleable in countries where the level of education was high, such as in Germany, France and Britain amongst others.

His opinions were expressed in an article in the latest edition of Harakah.
