Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said details had yet to be finalised. “We are still studying the routes and mechanism to ensure only the people of Johor and Malaysia will benefit from the free service. Foreigners will be required to pay a certain sum of money to use the service,” he said.
The state government has already launched a free bus service covering the Larkin-Johor Baharu Sentral-Johor Baharu City Council-Jalan Wong Ah Fook-Larkin route in July 2014.
Khaled spoke to reporters after launching a 2016 School Bus Fare Subsidy Aid programme in Pasir Gudang. He said the programme was held for the first time on the initiative of the Pasir Gudang Foundation and Pasir Gudang Umno to help the low income group.
“We provide RM180,000 for 800 pupils from 500 families as bus fares from February to December since we know transportation costs are among the major headaches of parents,” said Mohamed Khaled, who is also Yayasan Pasir Gudang (YPG) chairman.
