The woman had left the two girls unattended in her car, with the engine running, when the woman parked outside the bank at 6.15am to make a quick cash withdrawal.
Kota Kinabalu police chief M. Chandra said: “When she came out of the bank, she had the shock of her life when she found that the car and her daughters were no longer there. She lodged a police report.”
Chandra said an immediate search for the car was launched and the car was found half an hour later. It had been left at the car park behind the 1Malaysia Clinic in Jalan Gaya. The girls, aged 8 and 5, were inside, safe and unhurt,” he said.
Initial investigations showed that a man in his 20s wearing a t-shirt and black shorts had wanted to take the car, but not to kidnap the girls.
Chandra advised the public not to leave their children unattended in a vehicle.
