In criticising the squabble between the former allies, Phahrolrazi opined that it would also hurt the Opposition’s chances of winning big in the 14th General Election and enable BN to win many seats in turn.
Should a three-way contest between PAS, DAP and Umno occur, Phahrolrazi explained, the advantage would go to Umno.
“That’s why we’re hoping the Opposition will do something to avoid a three-cornered fight,” he told FMT.
Selangor DAP vice-chairman Teng Chang Kim had yesterday said the party accepted PAS’ declaration of a “war” against them after the Islamist party said DAP was their enemy, apart from Umno.
Phahrolrazi, who is former Kedah PAS deputy commissioner, also criticised the Islamist party’s antagonistic attitude towards other Opposition parties and said, “PAS is now more at odds with the Opposition parties compared to Umno and BN, given their stated willingness to work with Umno and forbidding their members from attending Pakatan Harapan events.”
Once part of Pakatan Rakyat, PAS and DAP clashed over hudud which subsequently saw both parties cut political ties with each other. This in turn led to Pakatan Rakyat being declared defunct.
DAP is now part of Pakatan Harapan, along with PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
