
He said that 2016 would be an even more challenging year than 2015, which saw oil prices plummeting and the US dollar strengthening, among other external factors.
To tackle this year’s challenges, Najib said more responsive and firm measures would be taken to ensure the optimal management of resources.
“I will be tabling amendments to Budget 2016,” he said, explaining that the budget would be “re-calibrated” so that it is more realistic and accurate in light of the current economic climate.
Najib, who was addressing Finance Ministry staff in Putrajaya, did not specify when the budget would be redressed, only noting that it would be done soon.
In October last year, Najib announced Malaysia’s 2016 budget with an allocation of RM267.2 billion.
