PETALING JAYA:
Political Secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar, Shuhaimi Shafiei said that PAS has clearly stated that they will not bow to Amanah’s demand with regard to the state councillor seat allocation.

Referring to yesterday’s redistribution of state councillor seats, he said PKR sacrificed 19 state councillor seats in Selangor for its allies – PAS, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) – however the favour was not returned by PAS to assist Amanah.

Currently, PKR’s seat tally is down to 101 from 120 for the new term of January 15, 2016 until December 31, 2017.

In fact, he confirmed that PAS had gained three more seats, up from 67 to 70, as promised by PKR as per a previous agreement that any seats given to Amanah would result in an equivalent number of seats allocated to PAS as well.

According to Shuhaimi, the seat allocation was based on PKR’s formula where PAS would get one-third of all council member seats, village heads and other positions because the Islamist party’s quota at exco was reduced by one seat.

“We (PKR) agreed to compromise for the smooth running of the state government’s administration,” he told reporters at the Selangor state secretariat building.

“Of course, during discussions there will be some who agree and vice versa but in the end, we reached an agreement where PAS, DAP and PKR must make the state government our main priority.

“The process of negotiation will cause ripples but it needs to be resolved. PAS lost one exco seat, that is okay. We have the platform to express dissatisfaction but at the same time, we have to give and take.”

Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar, Mohamed Azmin Ali urged PAS and DAP to make way for Amanah in the councillors’ seats allocation. According to him, they were notified during the state government’s exco council meeting recently which was attended by PKR, DAP and PAS.
