Who doesn’t love the look and feel of a newly revamped bathroom? A full bathroom renovation can be expensive as it involves plumbing and waterproofing, but if your current bathroom is still in good condition, there are a few ways to give it a makeover without breaking the bank.

As 2022 draws to a close and the world moves into the New Year, here are four simple yet transformative ways to revamp your bathroom to give your home a fresh new look!

1. Update the lights

A great way to change the overall feel of the bathroom is by changing the lights or adding more. The type of fixtures will depend on the ambience you want to create in the space.

Most old bathrooms have one big ceiling light to illuminate the whole space. To really make an impact, however, you’ll want to have a good mix of task and accent lights for functionality and ambience.

Consider adding down- or up-light scones by the bathroom mirror, specifically on either side to avoid creating unpleasant shadows on your reflection from lighting above the mirror.

It’s also a good idea to add task lighting in the shower area. If you’re aiming for a pleasant ambience and a soft glow, consider mirrors with concealed lights.

2. Change the taps, mixers, and shower heads

After a while, bathroom taps, shower mixers and shower heads will start to look dull and tarnished. If they are lower-quality items, the chrome finish may crack and flake off, looking unsightly.

Changing these will help to aesthetically freshen up your bathroom. It’s a simple and quick task for any handyman as it only involves removing and installing the new items.

Replace them with traditional chromed faucets and mixers, or go bold and choose gold-accented or matte-black versions. You’ll be surprised just how different and polished the space will feel.

3. Add more storage

One effective way to improve the look and feel of a bathroom is by adding more storage. This way, items that would usually sit exposed can be hidden away, making the space look cleaner and more organised. Your bathroom will feel completely different without a messy countertop or shower area.

And why stop there? Consider further bathroom accessories such as racks, hooks, baskets, bins, and other storage options. These are great for keeping your toiletries and accessories out of sight but accessible.

4. Switch from shower curtains to a fixed divider

Shower curtains, while inexpensive, can make the bathroom feel messy and cramped. It’s also not very effective at keeping water inside the shower area.

Instead of a curtain, open up your bathroom by replacing it with a glass shower divider or screen.

While these will cost more, they are still affordable options for adding a fresh new look to your shower area. From frosted glass doors that slide open, to a half-wall divider, there are different types of shower-divider designs for you to choose from.
