Have you been hearing endless dripping noises from your taps? Or does your shower water pressure seem to be decreasing?

Plumbing problems are inevitable for every homeowner, but regular care and maintenance can stop such issues from getting worse. Here are five common water woes you should look out for to minimise potential waste and damage to your plumbing system.

1. Dripping taps

Dripping taps might seem minor but could add up to major water wastage. These often occur when the tap washer gets damaged over time, loosening the seal.

It’s easy enough to replace the washer on your own – there are plenty of tutorials available online! – but when in doubt, call a professional.

2. Leaking pipes

Similar to dripping taps, leaking pipes indicate loose or damaged hardware. These issues can be easily remedied with the replacement of parts.

In such cases, however, it is best to call a plumber, unless you have the tools and knowhow to do it yourself.

3. Rising water bills

Have you been noticing a sudden increase in your water bill? It could be due to increased consumption or an unnoticed leak.

Look out for potential spots for leakage or water stains. You might also want to call in an expert who can identify the root of the problem and offer solutions.

4. Low water pressure

Nobody likes low water pressure when they are trying to take a nice hot shower. Sadly, it often occurs when pipes are corroded, rusted or damaged.

A professional will be able to inspect your piping and give you an accurate diagnosis.

5. Slow-draining sink

Slow drainage, typically caused by blockages in pipes or drains, is one of the most common plumbing issues. Coagulated oil or food waste usually clogs kitchen sinks, while a choked bathroom sink is more likely due to hair or soap residue.

If you notice the water draining more slowly than usual, it is best to remove the obstruction at once to prevent the sink or pipe from being completely blocked.
