Looking for a weekend getaway with your family to get away from it all, or simply to spend some relaxing quality time together? Here’s a selection of family-friendly places in the Klang Valley that are off the beaten path, nestled among lush greenery, and away from the city crowd.

Check back in tomorrow for part two of this article.

1. The Sticks

Located in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, The Sticks is an off-grid glamping retreat, featuring 12 unique houses ranging from serene “tendoks” – a cross between a tent and a pondok – to larger family rooms.

All rooms are furnished with water heaters with spring water, and have attached bathrooms. Hearty homecooked meals are prepared every day, including a choice of steamboat or BBQ for dinner. Plus, meals are free for those below age two.

Sit back and relax in the hammocks, or enjoy a leisurely float down the river in a rented tube. Note, however, that a four-wheel drive ride is needed to enter the premises.

2. Woodhouse Retreat

The Woodhouse Retreat is equipped with modern facilities for a comfortable stay, while offering breathtaking hilltop views of Kuala Kubu Bharu. Enjoy al-fresco dining on the verandah, which includes a barbecue pit, and cook up a storm while being serenaded by the sounds of nature.

Those who wish to be more in touch with nature can even enjoy the hilltop glamping experience. Wake up surrounded by private forest reserves and mountain ranges, and enjoy a floating breakfast in your own private infinity pool!

Check out Woodhouse Retreat via its website, or Facebook and Instagram profiles.

3. Two Sungai Residence

Two Sungai Residence calls itself ‘a luxe-escape in the heart of Ulu Langat’. (Two Sungai Residence pic)

Strategically located where two rivers meet in Serendah, Selangor, this villa allows for a fuss-free, relaxing getaway. Enjoy your breakfast right by the riverside, while the kids run wild in the large field by the front porch.

Head down the pathway for a dip in a semi-private section of the river – though do be careful, as these are deep, even for grownups. Still, there are many other things to keep your young ones entertained, including a swing, pool table, and arcade machine.

If you’d like a break from cooking, too, don’t worry – local delights can easily be ordered in!

Learn more and book your stay via Facebook and Instagram.

Serendah River Retreat is located in a rainforest/fruit plantation of about 2ha with a natural river stream running across the site.

There are two houses here – the Brickhouse and Woodhouse – each with private access to a section of the river, where a gated bridge provides security… perfect for those who would like a safe, socially distanced getaway in nature.

As a bonus, a 30-minute guided jungle trek to a private and secluded waterfall will keep your young ones (aged 10 and above) busy and active!

Visit Serendah River Retreat’s website or Facebook profile for further information.

5. Carpe Diem Orchard Home

Carpe Diem, also in Serendah, shows off the best of farm and village life in a beautiful and idyllic setting. (Carpe Diem Orchard Home pic)

Discover kampung-style living at its best at Carpe Diem, where chalets are set amidst an abundance of fruit trees, across 7ha of lush greenery.

There is a huge array of educational activities for the kids, keeping them busy as they learn to appreciate nature and the simpler things in life.

Fruit harvesting, farm-animal feeding, catch-and-release fishing, and a stingless bee farm are among the highlights… plus, go for family rides with bicycles that are free to use!

Carpe diem and have a great time at this destination. Find out more via its website, and on Facebook or Instagram.
