Your mood has a major impact on how well you function on any given day. Work on improving it and you’ll find that life won’t seem as difficult or challenging.
Here are some ways to improve your state of mind and feel more at ease.
1. Go outdoors
Spending too much time indoors can have a negative effect on your mood. Getting outside and enjoying the sun can help you be more present in the moment.
Take up a sport such as golf, where you can be out having fun while brushing up on a recreational skill.
2. Catch up with a friend
Get in touch with a trusted friend, either through a video chat or phone call. Reminisce on old times and share what you have been up to.
You’ll likely find yourselves laughing and feeling relaxed after a few minutes of chatting, reminding you of how important it is to nurture your relationships.
3. Meditate or practise yoga
A meditation or yoga session will help you feel more relaxed and calm. Both are a great way to get in touch with your emotions and silence any unwanted thoughts.
Take a class with an instructor or use an app or streaming service.

4. Break a sweat
When you exercise, you’re not only working your body but reducing your mental stress. Do it regularly and you will notice the difference it makes in boosting your confidence and emotional state.
This is especially important if you’ve had a rough day or are feeling drained or upset. Listening to your favourite music will add a further boost to your activity.
If you’re not feeling motivated, find a friend who will work out with you. Don’t forget that going outdoors for a walk or jog will also improve your mood.
5. Practise gratitude
The act of practising gratitude has been known to increase happiness and make one feel more fulfilled. By counting your blessings, your mind will be less focused on what you think is missing or what you don’t have, and more on the positives in your life.
You may get even more out of it if you keep a journal and write down how you’re feeling. Practising gratitude is a great way to start and end the day.
