Cutie Pie Pet Café, which opened in Sri Petaling last October, just might be the go-to hangout spot for dog lovers.
The eatery is the brainchild of Sam Tan, 26, who came up with the idea when he found himself adopting one dog too many.
“I have 10 dogs, and I realised taking care of them can be a full-time job in and of itself. So that’s how the idea of the pet café came about,” he told FMT.
“I thought this place would be a nice space for them, instead of keeping them at home when I went to work.
“Customers can also bring their own pets so my dogs can interact with new animals from time to time.”

Tan, who lives in the city centre, decided on Sri Petaling as the location for the café as it is more of a residential area where people could easily walk in.
FMT paid a visit to Cutie Pie recently and was greeted by a throng of excited puppers once the servers opened the mini barrier gate.
Tan’s furry family is made up of five poodles, three Pomeranians, and two French bulldogs, all of whom are in diapers to prevent them from making messes in the café.
“Due to the pandemic, we also clean and sanitise the place twice a day, so our customers can chill here with their pets without worries,” Tan added.

Apart from the treat of being able to pet the cute dogs, the café’s signature offering is its yoghurt-based fruit dessert.
Customers can select from three different flavours of yoghurt: original (white), grain (grey), or coconut (blue), the latter of which draws its colour from the butterfly pea flower.
They can then customise their dessert with the toppings of their choice, ranging from fruits such as strawberries and grapes, to coconut jelly, “passion popping boba”, and cornflakes.
If yoghurt isn’t quite up your alley, there’s also the brown-sugar-topped ice jelly that will quench your thirst and satisfy your cravings. Similarly, go for your preferred toppings with this sweet treat.

Of course, while you enjoy your treat, your pet will inevitably be staring at you with pleading puppy-dog eyes. Fret not, as there’s something on the menu for them as well.
Your little one will be pleased with a range of dog-friendly dishes, from pork nuggets and salmon pizza to cheese mousse cake.
Many of these seem too pretty to eat, and you’ll have to fight off the temptation to steal a bite and risk drawing a glare from your beloved pet!
Above and beyond being an eatery, Cutie Pie serves as a pet salon with grooming services, and customers will also be able to check their four-legged friends in at the pet hotel the next time they go on vacation.

As for how Tan ensures his guests are well-mannered, he explained: “We will ask the owner if their pet is good with other dogs beforehand, since not all of them will be sociable.
“If there’s a need to, we will separate them so as not to rile up the other dogs staying here.”
Another aim of the café is for his dogs to get more human contact.
“Their high-pitched barks might scare some people, but at the end of the day, they just want you to pet them or give them a treat,” he said with a smile.
