It’s an online dessert marketplace that sells a variety of artisanal and homemade sweet treats so you can end your meal on a sweet note.
This new start-up opened for business on Feb 25 and according to co-founder Saranya Rathakrishnan, their main goal is to nurture “enthusiastic and passionate foodpreneurs” who have the potential to be bigger and better.

In a recent interview with FMT, Saranya said that the pandemic forced many to turn to their passion for cooking and baking to support themselves when they lost their jobs or suffered salary cuts. Hence the mushrooming of small businesses during that period.
“Many of our home bakers on board started their businesses during the lockdown and did not have the platform to promote and sell their products,” Saranya shared, adding that Aftereatz hopes to support these home bakers and local brands.

Beside functioning as a one-stop online platform for first-time small business owners, Aftereatz also provides marketing and promotions solutions as well as brand awareness so home bakers can grow their businesses over time.
There are a total of 14 sellers currently who offer close to 100 types of desserts – cakes, cookies, pies, breads and even beverages like kombucha.
Besides sweet desserts like lemon blueberry cream tarts and fudgy brownies, Aftereatz also offers savoury treats such as chicken pies, chicken curry puffs and mutton curry puffs.
If you love a warm loaf of bread for breakfast, their selection of focaccia, bagels and sourdough will thrill you.

Saranya said there was zero start-up cost for a business owner who wished to join Aftereatz. All they had to do was contact the Aftereatz team via Instagram or the Website to get started.
“We are hoping to bring in many more sellers in the near future, especially those selling health-conscious products such as desserts that are gluten-free, vegan and less sweet,” she said.
If you are customer wishing to place an order, head on over to the Aftereatz website, create your account and begin browsing for your desserts.
Do bear in mind however, that orders have to be placed in advance as all the business owners on Aftereatz are home bakers – so a dash of patience is required.
“Depending on the seller, some orders may have to be made a week in advance,” Saranya noted, adding that the estimated time needed to prepare orders can be found on the website.

Currently, delivery is limited to the Klang Valley. However, the Aftereatz team hopes to expand their business and to deliver decadent desserts to other states like Penang and Johor soon.
