Yet, that’s precisely what life had in store for the 25-year-old and from the looks of things, it’s been one of the highlights of his life.
Speaking to FMT recently, Sathya said the he and his mother set-up The Cheesecake Master as a means to earn an income when his mother’s business was forced to shut because of the pandemic.
His mother, Jegthes, 59, was forced to shut all her beauty salons when the government enforced a string of lockdowns to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Worried about the mounting bills and desperate to help his family financially in any way he could, he decided to launch a business, baking cheesecakes from home.
“My mum has been making cheesecakes since I was young and people were always telling her to start selling,” Sathya said.
Encouraged by their comments, he took to Instagram, informing everyone that he and his mother were now taking orders for homemade cheesecakes, and appealing to everyone to support their business endeavour.

And that’s exactly what his family and friends did. “I was overwhelmed with the amount of support we received. We had over 100 orders just from that post,” Sathya said, beaming.
Today The Cheesecake Master sells three types of cheesecakes.
They started safe by selling the classic cheesecake flavour but when the hype for lotus biscoff came about, Sathya and his mother experimented with the spread and soon after introduced their version of lotus biscoff cheesecake.
Their blueberry cheesecake is the latest addition to their menu and according to Sathya, it has already become a firm favourite with customers.
“We only use fresh blueberries and even put blueberries in the middle of the cake for that extra flavour,” he shared.

“The classic and lotus biscoff flavour in the 7-inch (18 cm) size or by the slice are available for same day order but not the blueberry flavour as we have to make it fresh,” Sathya explained.
Delivery is available throughout Petaling Jaya and Mont Kiara.
“We joined a cloud kitchen initiative in Oct 2021 making our cakes available in the Mont Kiara area as well,” he said, adding that all their cakes can keep for up to one week when stored in an airtight container and refrigerated.

Besides the cheesecakes being halal, the duo is open to requests for vegetarian versions although this is limited to the classic and blueberry flavours only.
“Before we begin baking each day, we set a goal to make the best batch of cheesecakes we have ever made,” Sathya said, laughing.
“I actually did not know how to bake at first, but through The Cheesecake Master and with my mother’s help and guidance I am now a baker,” he said, adding that watching his mother make the cakes every day, also helped him learn something new.
Like most partners in business, Sathya and his mother don’t always see eye to eye but instead of driving them apart, he said the business has brought them ever closer.
“Starting this business with my mother has brought us closer in many ways and strengthened our bond as mother and son”.
As The Cheesecake Master continues to blossom, Sathya and his mother have plans on growing their business and introducing new flavours.
