Love using your oven for roasting chicken and baking chocolate chip cookies but hate cleaning it?

You’ve probably tried convincing yourself that all that heat kills every one of those nasty germs. But what about those layers of grease and streaks of grime you’re trying to avert your eyes from?

What if there’s an easy, safe, natural and effective way to tackle the monster? No need for harsh chemicals that pose a health risk.

Here is a step-by-step guide for the smart cleaner at home. All you need is a little time and elbow grease. Happy scrubbing!

Step 1: Remove everything in the oven

Remove the oven racks, thermometer, pans — everything. To clean the racks, soak them in the sink with warm water and a few drops of dish detergent.

Step 2: Make your own natural cleaning solution

Using an empty spray bottle, include four tablespoons of baking soda and fill the bottle with water. Shake the spray bottle to dissolve the baking soda.

Step 3: Spray your oven

Spray the interior of your oven with the cleaning solution you just made. Be sure that the entire oven gets a good coat of the baking soda and water mixture.

Also, for particularly dirty spots, you can increase the amount of baking soda to create a paste and spread that over the tough spots.

Make sure you’re wearing gloves so you don’t have to worry about cleaning your fingernails after.

Step 4: Binge-watch your favourite TV series

The easiest part in the process — kick back and relax while you let the cleaning mixture work its way into the dirt and grime.

Leaving everything for a few hours or even overnight will do the trick. In the meantime, don’t forget to clean the oven racks you have soaking in the sink.

Step 5: Wipe the oven

Using a damp cloth, wipe off the dried baking soda paste. You can also use a scraper or plastic spatula to scrape off some parts. Sweep out the debris you chipped off.

Step 6: Spray some vinegar and water into it

Mix a half vinegar and half water solution and spray the interior of your oven, especially parts where you can see residue from the baking soda mixture.

Step 7: Give it one last wipe

Using another clean damp cloth, give your oven one last wipe. Reinstall the racks.

If there are stubborn stains that are still clinging to the oven, repeat the previous steps.

Otherwise, your oven should be clean, shiny and ready for your next cooking adventure!
