Soup’s on with salted fish bone, tofu and pork

NON-HALAL: Having soup with every meal is a great way to fill in the cracks left in the appetite and make sure the children are getting enough fluids.

An all-time favourite is the salted fish bone tofu and pork soup. This recipe uses a good quality whole kurau salted fish with the boney bits,

If you’d like to try your hand at making it at home for your family, here’s what you need:

Ingredients:

  • Salted fish bone (preferably ikan kurau)
  • 1 bulb of garlic, peeled
  • 2.5cm ginger, sliced
  • 1 spring onion, cut into 5cm lengths
  • 300g-500g pork slices
  • 2 blocks soft tofu, cubed
  • 2 litres water
  • 4-5 tablespoon cooking oil

Method:

  • Soak the fish bone for half an hour.
  • Fry the garlic, ginger and fish bone until fragrant.
  • Add pork slices and cook until brown.
  • Pour in water, bring to a boil and simmer for at least half an hour.
  • At the last minute, add cubed tofu and spring onions before serving.
