Netflix kicks off February with movies and anime galore

Today, Feb 1

  • ‘Anatomy of Time’ (film)

In this 2022 Thai effort, a woman reflects on her own past and her country’s turbulent history while caring for her dying husband – a once ruthless and now despised military officer.

  • ‘An Unfinished Life’ (film)

A grieving widow and her daughter move in with her estranged father-in-law in Wyoming, where time allows them to heal and forgive. The star-studded cast includes Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez.

  • ‘Bleach: The Entry’ (series)

As soul reaper Rukia Kuchiki prepares to meet her doom, Ichigo Kurosaki and his crew take an extraordinary journey to the Soul Society to rescue her. An anime, of course. Also premiering today, season 3 of ‘Bleach: The Rescue’.

  • ‘Chainsaw Man’, season 1 (series)

After being left for dead, Denji turns into a devil-human hybrid with chainsaw powers, and gets recruited into a governmental devil-hunting agency. Another anime, thankfully.

‘Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa’ (series)

A silhouetted suspect moves to the crime-infested city of Beika with murder in mind, in this spinoff spoof of “Detective Conan”. Yet another anime.

  • ‘Gunther’s Millions’ (documentary)

A dog with a trust fund isn’t the strangest part of this real-life story: Gunther’s eccentric handler also lived a luxe life – with a cult-like entourage. An intriguing tail tale for pet owners.

  • ‘Lego Friends: Heartlake Stories’ (series)

A group of big-hearted best friends go on adventures, solve problems and make the most of their beautiful home, Heartlake City. A limited series for kids.

  • ‘Proud Mary’ (film)

Trying to protect an orphaned boy, a guilt-ridden hit woman sparks a bitter mob war and soon faces tremendous threats from all sides. Starring Taraji P Henson as the abovementioned Proud Mary, and Danny Glover.

  • ‘Quarantine’ (film)

While on assignment shadowing firemen, a news reporter and her cameraman get trapped in a quarantined apartment complex with a vicious unknown killer. Jennifer Carpenter stars in this horror-thriller.

  • ‘Red Cliff: Theatrical Version’ (film)

In 208 AD China, a bloody, pivotal battle ensues between warlord Cao Cao and general Zhou Yu, who allies with crafty strategist Zhuge Liang. This two-and-a-half-hour-long action film from 2008 was directed by John Woo.

  • ‘Reincarnated as a Sword’, season 1 (series)

A human reincarnated as a sword is picked up by an orphaned cat-girl and becomes her protector, devoting himself to her quest to evolve. An anime based on the bestselling manga.

  • ‘Ricki and the Flash’ (film)

Years after Ricki follows her passion and becomes a rockstar, circumstances force her to return to her estranged family. But while she tries to endear herself to them, they do not immediately take to her.

Meryl Streep plays the titular character in this musical drama-comedy.

  • ‘Riding in Cars with Boys’ (film)

After getting pregnant and married as a teen, Beverly works to find her voice and embrace a life starkly different from the one she dreamt of in her youth. Drew Barrymore stars in this 2001 dramedy.

  • ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ (film)

In this 1991 outing, the legendary outlaw played by Kevin Costner vows vengeance and joins a band of exiled villagers after the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham murders his father.

  • ‘Roman J Israel, Esq.’ (film)

A savant-like civil-rights defence attorney is faced with an enormous moral decision when his simple, ossified life is thrown into turmoil. Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell star in this crime drama.

A tech entrepreneur engaged to a gorgeous girl is afraid to admit he has no friends, so he hires Best Man Inc. to get him the groomsmen he needs. What could go wrong? Kevin Hart, Josh Gad and Affion Crockett star in this comedy.

In need of cash, a down-on-his-luck sneaker salesman Dax enlists the help of a local legend and his old basketball squad to win a streetball tournament. Featuring Shaquille O’Neal and Lil Rel Howery.

In this “On My Block” spin-off, four teen friends work to reverse a curse after a peculiar old box seems to bring misfortune, and more, into their lives.

  • ‘Make My Day’ (series)

On an isolated icy planet promising a bright future, prisoners are forced to excavate a rare energy source that leads to a deadly, unwelcome discovery. A sci-fi anime.

  • ‘Class’ (series)

Three students from a poor neighbourhood join an exclusive high school for Delhi elite where dark secrets and rumours ultimately lead to murder.
