Films vying for awards at the Berlinale film fest

A jury led by US director M Night Shyamalan will hand out the Golden and Silver Bear trophies at a gala ceremony on Feb 16.

BERLIN:
The 72nd Berlinale, Europe’s first major film festival of the year, starts Thursday as an in-person event, with 18 movies from around the world competing.

A jury led by Indian-born American director M Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense”) will hand out the Golden and Silver Bear trophies at a gala ceremony in the German capital on Feb 16.

Seven of the movies vying for awards were made by women directors, including the first entry from a Southeast Asian female filmmaker, Kamila Andini of Indonesia.
