KUALA LUMPUR:
After a successful showcase of artwork by 60 local artists last month, Arte@PavilionKL continues to showcase Malaysian talent with new displays by another 50 prominent and up-and-coming artists this month.

New exhibits include “Truth in Love” by Marisa R Ng; Zainol Ariffin’s abstract piece “Green Chase”; landscape artist Cheng Peng Sia’s “Spring”; and John Oh’s acrylic on paper titled “Make a Comeback”.

Meanwhile, Siva Nair’s art will depict Gopeng’s old facades, while Michael Lip’s watercolour works will feature Malaysia’s flora, fauna and cultural artefacts.

The exhibition also features a lineup of activities by artists to engage both young and old.

Last month saw a live-painting session by local artists who drew on a 2.3m x 4.3m canvas on the floor with giant brushes and their feet. The artwork titled “Tanah Merdeka” is now on display at the National Art Gallery.

Other activities last month included a Chinese landscape-painting demonstration by Cheng Peng Sia; watercolour painting demonstrations by Abey Zoul, Hisham Salmin and Maamor Jantan; as well as an art workshop for children.

Arte@PavilionKL kicked off on Oct 30 and is organised by Pico International. It is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the National Art Gallery, while Pavilion Kuala Lumpur serves as the venue host.

“The bedrock of this exhibition is to highlight the enormous amount of artistic talent we have here in Malaysia,” said Pico managing director Jason Teh.

“We also hope it helps rejuvenate the art economy and art tourism in Malaysia, especially as our country continues to grapple with the disruption and challenges brought about by the pandemic.”

Art@PavilionKL runs until Dec 31 from 10am to 10pm daily. For more information, click here.
